Description:

A bright and airy, deceptively spacious four bedroom detached family home, idyllically located within a small Hamlet just on the outskirts of Blackmore.

Briar cottage is a wonderful bright and airy four bedroom detached family home, idyllically located within a small Hamlet just on the outskirts of Blackmore.

The property has been sympathetically remodelled from the ground up by the current owners to provide generous living accommodation which flow seamlessly over two levels. The owners have made many upgrades to the home during their ownership which really compliment the home.

Upon entering the residence, you are greeted by an entrance hall with stairs ascending to the first floor. The lounge has a feature fireplace and dual aspect windows which overlook the well-manicured garden, there is a formal dining room along with a spacious eat in kitchen/diner which forms the central hub of the home. Further accommodation includes a ground floor shower room, study and utility room. The layout of the residence lends itself to easily accommodate annexe accommodation stp.

On the first floor are four double bedrooms, with the principal suite having dual aspect windows allowing the natural light to flood the room.

The garden in particular has been meticulously and very thoughtfully designed to create a sense of tranquillity with array of mature trees and flower borders which provide an ever-changing display of colours throughout the seasons. There is a garage and driveway which provides ample off road parking.

Sellers interview Built in 1906 and extensively extended in the 70's, the current owners spoke about the property historically housing a village shop on the front, and having a church opposite, the property is 'steeped in history'. 'We have lived here for eight years' say the current owners, 'in the beginning it was a very run down and it was definitely a project house. That was what initially attracted us to the property actually. We've turned it from a mundane 3 bed bungalow to a spacious 4 bedroom dormer bungalow with a large kitchen, large lounge, utility room, study and a separate dining room'. The owner describes the property as a 'passion project', having undertaken a lot of the work himself over a four year period. Originally, the current owners were attracted to the project, and liked the size of the property, seeing it's potential to be renovated.

Regarding the location, the owner says 'Briar Cottage is idyllically located within the hamlet of Nine Ashes. It is near to the small town of Chipping Ongar which has bus links to Brentwood, Chelmsford and Harlow and the village of Blackmore, although it is part of the parish of Ingatestone.

Nine Ashes is a nice and quiet area with a great community spirit, where all the neighbours are very kind and friendly and everyone knows one another and looks out for each other. Last year we had a ve day party outside the front during lockdown with everyone taking part.

The village of Blackmore is less than one mile away and is steeped in history. It has lots of amenities, two pubs, a sports and social club which arranges many local events, quizzes, fairs etc. There are two tea rooms and a small supermarket with a post office. It also has a pre-school nursery and a school. There are daily buses from the village to Brentwood and Ongar and also school buses that pick up and drop off children to their senior schools.

When describing their favourite aspects of the home, the current owners emphasised their love for the annex which they say could easily be joined to the house with the addition of a connecting door, 'it's not used as a garage, it could be a separate living space for either a teenager or elderly relative'. Their favourite room is the kitchen which they say is 'big, it holds an 8 seat table and is where the main television is now. It is the hub of the house as we have to go through there to go anywhere else in the house'. The owners speak of happy memories looking after their first granddaughter in the property.

When asked what they will miss about the property, the owner says 'the size. It really is like a tardis, from the outside it looks like a normal dorma bungalow but when you walk through the door you are surrounded by places to go. It is a big house and it needs to be seen to be believed.'

location Nine Ashes is surrounded by beautiful stretches of open countryside with an extensive network of public footpaths and bridleways.
Shenfield railway station, which has a fast train (25 minutes) to Liverpool Street is 6 miles away, with the introduction of Crossrail due next year.

The cathedral city of Brentwood is 7 miles away which is a busy shopping area, with a Nuffield hospital and a community hospital. It has easy access to M25 and A12.

Chelmsford city situated to the north is approximately 10 miles away, providing a more comprehensive shopping centre, excellent recreational facilities and a good choice of schools including the renowned King Edward VI Grammar School, Chelmsford County High School for Girls and New Hall School. For the commuter access points to the A12 are within two miles, which interconnects with J28 of the M25
