S21 Area Guide
Eckington, Marsh Lane, Middle Handley, Killamarsh, Renishaw, Spinkhill, Troway

The S21 postcode area of Sheffield, is situated south east of the Sheffield boundary, in between Chesterfield and Worksop. It can be best described as a collection of villages, offering the quaintness and period properties expected of a village, yet being close enough to Sheffield city centre to ensure access to all the benefits a city provides.

The majority of houses in this area are semi-detached and coming up second are detached properties. There are many relatively modern houses, hence the large proportion of semis, but if what you desire is a traditional cottage, barn conversion or something a little more period and unusual, then S21 is an area worth investigating.

Public transport services are very good to the larger villages of Killamarsh and Eckington. The M1 skirts the most easterly side of S21 meaning that Killamarsh, Renishaw and Spinkhill are popular with commuters.

Each village has its own collection of local shops, meaning that the distance to the more central areas of Sheffield is not an issue if you run out of milk! Eckington even has its own market every Friday.

Being one of the more rural postcodes, there are plenty of scenic places to explore whether it be on cycle or foot If you love the outdoors but prefer to not be completely off the beaten track, then Rother Valley Country Park could be the perfect place to visit. The park is covers 3 square kilometres (740 acres) and has four artificial lakes, recreational activities and nature reserves.

Another lovely place to visit in S21 is Renishaw Hall and Gardens. Renishaw Hall is a Grade I listed country house and has been the home of the Sitwell family for over 350 years. There are guided tours of the house and you can also explore the beautiful gardens and grab a bite to eat in the café.

Renishaw Park is a golf course situated in the magnificent mature parkland around Renishaw Hall. The course was built in 1911 by Sir George Sitwell and retains many of the original features and specimen trees from its early days.

In Eckington there is a small health complex, Eckington Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre. Here they offer swimming lessons, a gym, health and fitness classes, café and soft play.

There are a few lovely places to eat and drink in S21. The Sitwell Arms hotel in Renishaw is the home of the Wild Boar Restaurant. The cuisine here is fine dining and is set in beautiful grounds, making it the perfect place to dine for a special occasion.

Another hotel which has an excellent restaurant is The Devonshire Arms in Middle Handley. Here you can find The Stag Restaurant and Bar which is very family friendly with a welcoming atmosphere.

The Angel Pub in Spinkhill is a modern independent pub serving traditional British pub food in a stylish and relaxed atmosphere. The bar is stocked with local suppliers from independent breweries and spirit makers.

Due to S21 being so popular with families, there are a few local nurseries to choose from. There are also local schools in each village, although these are all infant and junior schools. There is one secondary school in S21, Eckington School, but depending on where you are situated in S21, you may also fall into the catchment for Wales High School and Westfield School.
