When searching for a new home to live in there is often a long wish list of must haves. Character is always high on the list, something that Higgledy Cottage has in spades. A particular favourite of mine is the exposed stone fireplace in the living room, a real focal point of the room complete with a raised hearth, oak bressumer and log burning stove, one of two in the house. Imagine warming your toes by the fire on a cold winters evening enjoying a glass of your favourite tipple. Natural light giving the home an airy feel is another box that can be ticked, unusual for a period cottage. The notoriously glorious North Devon sunsets can be observed from the front of the cottage as you look almost due West, a real evening treat. Parking can often be a challenge when considering a period cottage but again not the case here. Higgledy cottage has its very own driveway to the rear of the house which is complimented with a single garage with electrically operated roller shutter door and separate service door into the walled garden.

Practical too! Higgledy cottage is a very well-proportioned home offering spacious accommodation. Finding three double bedrooms in such a cottage can be rare but again something that this lovely home does not suffer from. Location is always key when considering a move. The beautifully named Frithelstockstone whilst being a small community is handily placed and is often described as the gateway to everywhere. From here you can enjoy good road links to the market towns of Great Torrington and Bideford both within a 20 minute drive, also Exeter within an hour’s drive from the village. In the other direction is the market town of Holsworthy, close to the Cornish borders. Within a five minute drive you can find yourself enjoying the locally renowned Tarka Trail a footpath/cycle way mainly built on the bed of a disused railway where all the gradients are gentle. It winds its way through some stunning woodland along the course of the River Torridge past Beam Weir, where Henry Williamson’s Tarka the Otter was born, from which the trail gains its name. It continues past Bideford and along the coast to Barnstaple where it splits and one leg turns inland again following the portion of the railway which is still in use the other continues on the bed of the disused railway and onto Ilfracombe. There are lots to do both regionally and locally. Within just a twenty minute drive you have the Plough arts centre / theatre, Dartington Crystal and The Royal Horticultural society gardens "Rosemoor" to enjoy.

Ticking boxes aside, it is in my experience that the feel of the home is what will make you buy it. Only by visiting Higgledy Cottage you will know if it is "the one". I strongly urge you to take the time to experience it for yourself and would love the opportunity to meet with you there to help embed what you see on paper in the flesh.

Directions
Leaving Torrington’s' main square via South Street and Whites Lane, at the 'T' junction turn left onto New Street and continue out of Torrington following down the hill and passing the 'The Puffing Billy' on your right hand side and crossing the River Torridge. Take the 1st left hand turning signposted Frithelstock / Monkleigh and continue on this road passing through Frithelstock and entering Frithelstockstone. At the 'T' junction turn left onto the A388. The property is located after a short distance on your left hand side as the road bends around to the right and is clearly market with a for sale sign.
